Review Policy

I love to read and I love free books! So if you're a publicist, author or publisher, please feel free to contact me and I’d be happy to consider writing a review. With that said, I'd appreciate your continued attention as I outline some of my likes and dislikes. This will help ensure that the books you offer me are books I will more likely accept.

What I like
I prefer fictional novels that feature interesting characters and a well-developed, fairly realistic plot. For this reason, I tend to enjoy historical and contemporary fiction, mysteries and thrillers. I also enjoy memoirs about people who have lived in unique cultural situations, whether they lived during a different historical time period than me, or in a different country (I’m in the U.S., by the way).

In 2012, I'm focusing on nonfiction as well, and would love to read books about marketing, agile software development, art history and social sciences. Feel free to suggest others as well.

I have a 7 year old son (reading at a 3rd grade level) and 5 year old daughter (reading at a 1st grade level). We would love to review your picture books, early readers and 3rd-4th grade level books, as well as any longer chapter books that would be appropriate for me to read aloud to my children.

What I don't like
I don’t enjoy chick lit, romance, fantasy, paranormal or horror. I also don't enjoy young adult novels ~ the only YA series I've really enjoyed is The Hunger Games.

Author Q&As and Guest Posts
I'd be happy to host a Q&A with an author that I enjoy reading. If I've reviewed the author in the past, or you're offering a book to review, I will consider a Q&A. I would also welcome guest posts by authors and publicists.

Where my reviews appear
In addition to published reviews to My Book Retreat, I also publish all reviews on Goodreads, and try to put most on Amazon. I am also starting to share reviews at Destination Wake Forest this year.

Please keep in mind that all of my reviews feature my own honest opinion, regardless of whether I receive the book from a publicist or author, or get it from the library or bookstore. For more information, please read my Disclosure Statement.

If you have a book you think I'd enjoy, please contact me.
