What have you been reading with your children this week? Hop on over to Mouse Grows Mouse Learns to share! Next week, I'll share some of the Halloween books we've been enjoying over the past couple weeks.
Contemporary and historical fiction, mysteries and thrillers, nonfiction and
memoirs, picture books and early readers. This is my little corner of the web
to reflect on the books I have read, and those that I want to read.

Great Halloween Books for Kids
We have been reading Halloween books for a few weeks now. Some of them came from the library and our latest Scholastic book order, and some came from our bookshelves. But we've definitely had Halloween on our minds! Here are some of our favorites!

The first book is Where's My Mummy?
by Carolyn Crimi. We got this one last year. It's the story of a little mummy who doesn't want to go to bed. So he goes off to hide and waits for his mommy, who happens to be a mummy, to find him. But she doesn't come. He hears all sorts of spooky noises, each of which turns out to be a friend telling him to go to bed. Then he sees a mouse and gets scared, but his mummy finally arrives just in time.

We just got Skeleton Meets the Mummy
by Steve Metzger in our last Scholastic book order. This is a cute story about a little skeleton who is out for a walk to his grandma's house. He keeps hearing a sound behind him and soon realizes someone is following him. It's a mummy! But soon he learns it's not a real mummy at all. This is a cute, fun Halloween story.

Next is a book M discovered at the library: 10 Trick or Treaters
by Janet Schulman. This is a board book, but I think it would appeal to older kids too. Both of my kids thought it was fun. It's about a group of kids who are out trick-or-treating. At each stop, something frightens one of the kids and they run home. It's a counting book in which it starts with ten and goes to zero. The costumes and expressions on the kids who are frightened are fun to look at, and the words are fun to read.

M picked Diego's Halloween Party
by Brooke Lindner when we went to Barnes and Noble a couple weeks ago. This is a story about Diego and Baby Jaguar going to find all the animals they want to invite to their Halloween party. There are five different animals that they need to find in the rainforest. Fans of Diego will love it. M sure does!

ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to find that skeleton book for my nephew. He's dressing up this year as a little skeleton!
ReplyDeleteI'll make sure not to show my kids there's a Halloween Diego book. I remember noticing that last year, or a similar one, and being annoyed because it was more just because it was Diego and Halloween.
ReplyDeleteWe just got Skeleton Meets Mummy in the mail too.
Great books and thanks for joining WMCIR! So far our Halloween reads have been "bust" - Anna is still very sensitive to scary content even though she is a lot more upbeat about neighborhood decorations repeating to herself a little mantra "they are plastic".
ReplyDeleteThe first two books look cute. One of us is afraid of mummies, but I don't think those would be a problem.
ReplyDeleteI needed a Halloween Counting book!! Thanks for the suggestions.
ReplyDeleteHere is an app that my 3.5 y/o loves, its got her all excited about Halloween.
